Help Kane Breathe Easy Again

My name is Stacey and my wife, Kayla, and I are raising funds to help our sweet baby pup, Kane.
Kane is a 1 (almost 2) year old Jackapoo. Half Jack Russel, Half poodle mix. He is as energetic as can be but a total love bug. Kane is a lover of all things like eating cheese, playing ball, chasing squirrels, playing with his friends at daycare and going for walks with his favorite little human brother, Robbie.
2 weeks ago, Kane started with what appeared to be a sore throat. After a few days of monitoring and watching him show other symptoms, like lethargy and fever, we decided to bring him to urgent care.
At urgent care, they ran some tests and said he had bronchitis and kennel cough. We were sent home with an antibiotic, bronchodilator and cough suppressant. After 12 hours of being home, he started to go in to respiratory distress so we rushed him to another facility, an emergency room.
Kane showed no symptoms of what we were seeing, had a bit of an energy boost and vitals went back to normal so they agreed with urgent care and said he needed some rest.
12 hours later, on November 11, things really started to take a turn for the worse. Kane’s fever was really high, he was extremely lethargic and out of it. We rushed him back to urgent care to get checked out and he ended up being admitted for 4 days.
After 4 days, Kane still wasn’t getting better, even with IV antibiotics and fluids. They ran tons of tests with no diagnoses so we requested Kane be transferred to the emergency hospital. The urgent care didn’t provide transportation so we picked up our boy and brought him over.
The staff at the emergency hospital saw the decline from when we brought him the first time and were determined to get to the bottom of it. They ran some tests and found a necrotic right tonsil from a popped abscess and Kane had it surgically removed but his lungs were worsening and he started with pneumonia.
After a few days of antibiotics, Kane was discharged on Saturday. Saturday was really hard to watch him struggle to breathe and extremely lethargic so Sunday we rushed him back to the emergency room.
Sunday-today, they ran tons of tests to rule out viral, bacterial and fungal pneumonias and all tests came back negative.
Today, our boy was transferred to North Grafton Tufts and they have been giving us step by step reports on what’s been going on. My wife and I rushed to transport him as there was such a high risk of fatality by being out of the oxygen crate for the over an hour long drive.
Tufts has concluded that his pneumonia is severe enough that he may need to be mechanically ventilated/intubated as he has not been responding to the oxygen crate that he has been on for 2 weeks.
We are hopeful, as are the doctors, that if he gets mechanical ventilation, it may allow his body to rest to be able to heal from the antibiotics. Tufts is changing his medication regimen to see if these new antibiotics work. They are limited as he’s already tried 4 different kinds.
As you can imagine, the vet bills are outrageous. We do have pet insurance but we are just about at our out of pocket maximum and fear that this may delay care for our pup.
Anything you can provide helps, even if it’s just a share of our page.
Thank you so much,
from Kane’s favorite mamas and brother
