Greetings Family!
I’m in a particularly fortunate position to buy the home I’ve been living in for the last 4+ years!
From the first moment I set foot inside this little sanctuary, I knew it was home!
My little house is situated on 13 acres of land called Wild and Radish, a community of Food Justice and Land Back activists in El Sobrante, Ca. part of this land is stewarded by Sogorea Te, an Ohlone organization working to restore land rights to these original people of this land.
Living on land, outside of the bustling energy of city life has always been my dream since before the birth of my first child, 35 years ago! When it was offered to me to live here I knew that my dream was coming true!
While my home is situated on land, currently being stewarded by growers and shepherds, it is not far from the greater East Bay Area! It offers close proximity to my family members (3 grown children and 3 grandchildren!) and the multiple projects I care and have cared about for decades, providing loads of collaborative opportunities to come!
I was a mostly single mother raising children in San Francisco, Oakland and South Berkeley for the last 35 years! Housing insecurity has been a part of that journey the entire time and I’ve decided that all changes right now! By being able to own my own home for the first time ever means that I no longer have to worry about having a secure place to live out the rest of my days in comfort, community and service. But that’s not all! This house on this land also means:
-Continuing to practice growing and working with medical plants
-Releasing a black female activist from the stress created by housing insecurity so that she can continue to offer her best in community
-Providing a community classroom outside of the city where folx can come for a day or a weekend to learn from and with the land and Her teachers
-Peace of mind
-So much more!!
About the house:
Originally known as Big Tiny, Bella Nueva is about the size of a luxurious studio apartment! Constructed thoughtfully of wood and other natural materials, she is a sturdy edifice on wheels! She has been positioned overlooking Point Pinole Shoreline affording magical sunsets and sacred water views. The giant full wall square windows keep me connected to the natural world outside while also keeping me safe and warm️
Just outside my front door is a sweet little yard where I’ve been growing food and medicinal herbs. The garden is my pride and joy! When it’s not too windy or dry we can have a nice community fire!
I could talk about my home all day! If y’all feel moved to help a sister realize her dream of life on the land, please consider donating to this cause! And please consider a visit so you can see what I’m talking about :)
thank you for your time! I hope you will consider being a part of it!
Much love!
Kanchan Dawn Hunter
