Help Kane Mangala Chase His Hockey Dream

Hi, my name is Bret, and I want to share the inspiring story of Kananga (Kane) Mangala, a young man whose determination and heart have blown me away. I met Kane just three weeks ago at a junior hockey camp, and in that short time, I've witnessed firsthand his incredible passion for the game and his unwavering pursuit of his dreams.

Kane recently completed a successful 2023/2024 season and returned to the U.S. this season to continue his journey in junior hockey, hoping to one day play Division I College Hockey. So far this year his path has been far from easy. Kane’s journey from Montreal to the U.S. was met with challenge after challenge. He was delayed at customs and missed his flight. Undeterred, he connected with another player and hitched a ride, driving five hours to the camp. When he finally arrived, the hotel had canceled his reservation, forcing him to walk across town, lugging his hockey gear and luggage to find a motel—yet still, he made it to camp.

Sadly, the team didn’t work out, and Kane found himself scrambling to find a new opportunity. Navigating the complex world of junior hockey without an advisor or family with a hockey background, Kane was on his own. Despite these setbacks, his resilience never wavered. After staying with our family in Denver for a week and making dozens of phone calls, Kane found a new team in British Columbia. We made last minute flight plans and he was able to make it to practice within 24 hours. On Friday 9/13/24 he played his first game with the team, and it was clear—he’s going to make a huge impact both on and off the ice.

But there’s one more hurdle in his way. The league requires Kane to cover his season cost, billeting expenses, and some equipment (most urgently new skates) unfortunately, he doesn’t have the financial means to do so. The team will help Kane find a job during the season to support daily expenses but he needs our help to get started. That’s why we’re reaching out to the hockey community and beyond, asking for help.

Throughout every obstacle, Kane has remained positive and determined. His passion and perseverance are contagious, and despite the financial challenges and uncertainty, he never stopped fighting for his goals. He embodies everything great about sports—joy, hard work, and resilience. Whether he’s on the ice for practice, scrimmaging with youth players, or playing in games, Kane always competes with a smile and is the first to help others.

Kane represents everything the hockey community needs more of—positivity, heart, and the drive to succeed. I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know him, and I can tell you that supporting him isn’t just an investment in his future, but in the future of the sport itself. He’s destined for great things, and with your help, he can continue his journey toward Division I hockey and beyond.

Please consider helping this remarkable young man as he chases his dreams. Every bit of support will make a huge difference in Kane’s life, and I know he’ll pay it forward in the sport and to those who have the privilege of meeting him.

Thank you for being part of Kane’s journey.
