Born with a spinal tumor that left him permanently paralyzed from the chest down (T2 level), Kamden has faced immense physical challenges from the very start of his life. Yet, his spirit has never been defined by limitations. From a young age, he developed a deep passion for sports — a passion that has only grown stronger with time. Whether it's on the track or on the ice, he thrives in competition, driven by determination, discipline, and an unshakable dream: to one day represent his country as a Paralympic athlete.
Currently, Kamden competes in the adult Division 2 for San Diego Duck Sled Hockey Team as a Goalie. He also competes in Track and Field, Wheelchair Racing at Mount Carmel High School in San Diego, California. Kamden has started to compete at the national level in adaptive sports for Ice Hockey and Track and Field Wheelchair Racing.
Competing in any sport not only puts pressure and strain on the athlete but also the wallet. Many adaptive sports require use of different types of equipment and accessories. For example, a track wheelchair can cost an athlete anywhere from $5,000.00 to $15,000.00 just for a single complete sport wheelchair, and these sports wheelchairs are piece-mealed. Meaning they do not come assembled, but the parts for each wheelchair are purchased separately from each other, which can become very costly, especially since multiple sport chairs are needed for different sports.
At this time, Kamden is using a wheelchair racer loaned to him by CAF "Challenged Athlete Foundation". Which has been a blessing, shout out to CAF for giving Kamden an avenue into the sport.
With talent, resilience, and an inspiring work ethic, Kamden has all the makings of a future champion. The only obstacle now standing in his way is the lack of funds to support the cost of new equipment and to travel at the competitive level.
