Help Kamal Hassan Recover After a Hit-and-Run
On Wednesday, August 26th, our 76-year-old father, Kamal Hassan, was walking his usual 10-mile route near SE Harmony and SE Fuller in Milwaukie when a driver in a black pickup truck yelled at him, sped up, swerved directly into him, and drove off, leaving him battered and broken on the side of the road.
Since the crash, our father has undergone nearly six hours of surgery to repair a broken pelvis and has needed multiple blood transfusions. He is facing a long, painful recovery and, as of now, no suspect has been identified. Our family is actively working with investigators to help find the person responsible.
Why We're Asking for Help
Our father's medical care will most likely be covered but there's concerns that we may not be able to get him the level of care that he deserves. We're also facing everything around finding a place for him to recover his sense of safety.
- Relocation costs, since he was living and traveling out of his conversion van and will need stable housing to recover
- In-home care and mobility support so he can heal safely
- Transportation to follow-up appointments and physical therapy
- Costs tied to the ongoing investigation, including potential private investigative support to help identify the driver
- Legal fees, including possible representation as the case moves forward
- The added financial toll on our family as we support him through this

About Our Father
Our dad is a Palestinian immigrant who moved here in 1968 and, after a life of hard work, retired over a decade ago. Our dad is a traveling man at heart and had been living out of his conversion van, moving from place to place, walking every single day rain or shine. He is fiercely independent, and never expected that a simple walk could turn into a fight for his life because of who he is. Now, unable to safely return to life on the road while he heals, he needs help finding stable ground. He deserves to heal in peace, surrounded by support, not fear.
