It all started as a normal back pain for Kalpana Vitrakoti (me) 5 month ago. I thought it might be just a muscle pull and took some over the counter pain medication to get some relief. Since it did not help, I visited chiropractors to see if the back adjustment can give me some relief for back pain.  After 4 adjustments the back pain become very excruciating that I was unable to get up  from the bed, instead I had to crawl to the bathroom and use the hot water in the shower then only I will be able to stand straight and pain would lessen somewhat. 

In the mean time I visited my GP and explained her my misery and the pain and she prescribed me some pain medication and muscle relaxers to help with the pain.

On one  particular night I experienced muscle spasms on my lower back exactly like Charley horse that one can get on their calf. The pain was unbearable, we were so scare as there was no feelings and movement below my waist and was very afraid if I was paralyzed my husband immediately called 911 to go to hospital and were unsuccessful to go to hospital after parademic advise us since this is back related issues the hospital will only give you muscle relaxer and just take the muscle relaxer medication your doctor gave and let the medicine work and call your doctor tomorrow we did exactly what paramedics told us to do as ambulance cost were not cover by insurance 

the next morning we were there at the doctor office early and told her the misery of last night episode she gave me higher doses of pain medication and send me for MRI. and we went to touchstone imaging for MRI and had to wait for 24-48 hours for the results. 

The next day around 3 o clock doctor called and said come immediately your MRI results are here. I went to her office and please remember bad news is bad news,  there is no way one can express bad news as good news. When the doctor said there is abnormal growth on your lumbar area it might be cancer  I was so scare of this news and both me and my doctor were in tears as I have been going to her for the past 7-8 years.  and she refer me to oncologist in Texas oncology Plano.

We went to see dr Kinsella on sept 3rd and she saw the mri scan and reported and was very kind to us and told us she will need to do some more test to rules out if it is cancer or not, my insurance was declining her request to PET scan and here I was in excruciating pain. 

Then she refer me to Texas back institute Plano to Dr. Liberman when my husband and me went to visit him he was a little baffled as we wasted 2 weeks behind insurance and he send me for lab work the same day they draw 8-9 tiny Jars of blood test then he request CT scan and contrast MRI the very next day on sept 14 he schedule for a bone biopsy

On sept 14 I was very nervous and was hoping and praying as cancer would be negative but indeed the bone biopsy showed confirmed cancer and I felt like my whole world was crumbling down and I cried bitterly.


On sept 22 I was hospitalized for 6 days. The doctor had request different scan like bone scan,  Brain MRI,  lever Biopsy and she diagnosed me  with lung cancer IV stage, my cancer has spread to my lever, and then to L2,L4 and both of my hip bones and my right femur which was causing so much pain that I was having hard time to walk, also there are two small tumor on my cerebellum.

I am  from gorkha, Nepal and is currently resides here in Irving Texas with my husband and 2 boys (6 and 2 years old). I am currently not working as I have been going thru Chemotherapy and radiation, my family is going thru a very hard time. Please help us with whatever amount you can to cover the medical expenses and other expenses that may occur
