My name is Dajuh, and I’m a single mother to a beautiful, strong little girl named Ka’loni. She was born at 32 weeks due to a placental abruption and had to be resuscitated at birth. During that time, she lost oxygen, which caused basal ganglia damage in her brain and led to her diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Ka’loni is physically disabled. She cannot sit or walk unassisted and requires full support with almost all daily activities. She is joyful, determined, and bright — but caring for her physically is becoming harder as she grows.
As her mom, every lift, transfer, and movement depends on me. I lift Ka’loni, her heavy wheelchair, and her medical equipment daily. Over time, this has taken a serious toll on my body. I even tore my shoulder, had surgery, and completed physical therapy but my shoulder will never be the same. The physical wear and tear continues to cause more pain and limitations, especially as she and her equipment get heavier.
A wheelchair-accessible van would change our lives. It would allow me to transport her safely without lifting, and it would give us a way to securely carry all of her medical equipment. Right now, every appointment and every outing puts major strain on my body. I’ve searched everywhere for help, but there are no programs that cover wheelchair vans, and insurance does not assist because they do not consider a wheelchair van a “medical necessity.” Families are expected to pay the full cost on their own. I am asking for help to give Ka’loni safe transportation and to protect my health so I can continue caring for her. The transmission in my van went out and I currently without transportation to transport ka’loni
Any amount helps and brings us closer to a life where she can travel safely, comfortably, and with dignity. Thank you for reading, sharing, donating — or simply supporting us with love and prayers. Ka’loni & Dajuh
