END THE MENTAL HEALTH STIGMA!
Hello! My name is Kali. I am currently at Timberline Knolls in Illinois getting treatment for my mental health. I have had issues with my mental health since I went into foster care as a child, but as I’ve gotten older, the symptoms have become more severe. Recently, they got to a point where I needed to be hospitalized for my own safety due to suicidal ideation. I spent a month in Timberline Knolls’ residential treatment center, and have now “graduated” to their Partial Hospitalization Program. I live in housing with other woman dealing with similar issues. We go to programming everyday where we meet with therapists and psychiatrists, and have many groups that teach us emotion regulation, dialectical behavior therapy, and other coping skills for life’s big ups and downs. I am being treated for generalized anxiety, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, PTSD, and binge eating disorder. I am not ashamed of my diagnosis, I am not ashamed that I need help right now. Getting treatment was sincerely a matter of life and death for me. I know I am where I need to be, but I am struggling with the financial aspect. To get into treatment, I was required to pay over $2000 up front. I couldn’t afford it, so I had to make a payment plan. On top of that, housing costs $30 per day, and I still have to pay for medications and other necessities. Outside of treatment, I still need to pay for all my bills so I have a life to go to after I complete treatment. Car insurance, car payment, rent, utilities, pet care, phone bill, the list goes on. I am at a point now where I am safe, but still struggling with suicidal ideation. This place is making me better, but I am not ready to leave. I don’t want to cut my treatment short because I can’t afford to stay. If you or anyone you know is struggling with mental health, reach out before it’s too late. Help is available, even if you don’t see it now, people want to help you.
