Our grandson Kaleb went to Lurie Children's Hospital for a "routine" procedure on July 21st. He had anything but a routine day, and because of events that took place that day, he has been in and out of the hospital since. He has only spent 5 collective nights at home with his family since July 21st. Most of his time at the hospital has been in the ICU, with his family never leaving his side.
It is devastating seeing Kaleb go through this!! The strain it has put on his parents, Mike and Cori, and his brother Gage has been equally hard to witness! As a whole, the family is emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted.
Even though Kaleb has insurance, there is much insurance does not cover, and expenses are mounting quickly. Mike has missed quite a bit of work, and Cori has not worked since July 21st with no clear return date in sight. I cannot even imagine the thoughts and worries these two have. Kaleb is fighting hard to come home. That is why we are asking for help. Let's give this family one less thing to worry about during this very stressful time. THANK YOU!
UPDATE: From Cori and Mike
The end of last week was rough to say the least, never did Mike and I expect that Kaleb coming in to have a endoscopy & colonoscopy in July that he would end up on a ventilator. But that is where we found ourselves. Good news is Kaleb did not have to stay on the ventilator long and they were able to take the tube out.
Kaleb had another CAT (cardiac arrest team) call over the weekend (his 3rd) but Kaleb seems to be in a good spot at the moment. Still in the PICU but appears to be moving in a positive direction. Unfortunately it does not seem that they are any closer to knowing why this is happening to Kaleb.
Please know all your kind words, positive thoughts and prayers are a great comfort to our family during this difficult time.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️
