Kala is a 9-year-old black lab mix who was born on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, and she has been by Lyla’s side through nearly a decade of adventure, change, and life. When Lyla lived on the island for almost two decades, Kala was her farm dog — running free, roaming the land, living the life a dog dreams of. In 2019, when Lyla made the move back to the mainland, Kala came with her. Together they have navigated Los Angeles, San Diego, and Humboldt County, two souls finding their footing in a new world, leaning on each other every step of the way.


Kala is not just a pet. She is Lyla’s confidant, her best friend, and her furry child. She has shown up for Lyla in ways that only the most devoted animals can. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her. Kala is in pain right now. She has a cracked tooth with a piece hanging from her gum, and she needs emergency surgery — immediately. Lyla is doing everything she can, but this is beyond what she is able to cover on her own right now.
