Help Kaitlyn Give Her Father a Dignified Farewell

Hey there, I’m Kaitlyn Greenlaw and I’m in a period of life where I need some help..

My father recently and unexpectedly passed away and although he wasn’t a present parent my heart and soul cannot let him be an unclaimed body to the state. His mom and dad have passed away, his siblings wont answer my messages and my brother deals with addiction and homelessness and has no resources to help, so it seems to all be falling into my lap.

I received a random message on Facebook in the middle of the night from a stranger stating that my dad was going into emergency surgery, I was sleeping, but when I woke up the next message said that he had passed away.. it felt very uncanny and I didn’t know if I should take it seriously or not.. I decided to contact all the hospitals which told me they didn’t have him, and had no new records of him, so then I decided to hunt down his address and apartment number to call the police to do a wellness check at his home.. his lives in a locked residence so the police told me to contact the property manager as there was nothing they could do.. i called the property manager which seemed to be leading me in circles.. once I realized going about things the right way wasn’t working.. I had to take matters into my own hands. I managed to find someone to let me in the building, only to find out that his home is being squatted in by the drug users and homeless people of Portland. All his belongs have been rummaged through, he has absolutely no assets.. nothing for me to remember him by and I’m just hurting.

After Maine medical center kept telling me they had no record of him, and transferring me to all other hospitals.. I found him considered to be ‘abandoned’ in their morgue.

They’ve had him for a few days with no consent to do anything with his body, until yesterday so his body is decomposing.. time is of the essence and I’d really like to do right by my father.

I thought I grieved his absence long ago but the finality of death has really started to settle in my heart that there is no more time left for us to heal. It’s done now

all in all, I’m just a daughter who wants to be able to live at peace knowing that I tried, and that I could be more of a parent and show up for him, than he could

I truly and wholeheartedly appreciate anyone and everyone for any amounts contributed in helping me get my father a basic cremation.. Thank you.
