Dear Readers,

I’m going to start this off with a heartfelt thanks to all who have played an important role in Kaitlin’s life as a ray of positivity while she continues her journey of seeking a life in remission from cancer. I’ll speak on my and Kaitlin’s behalf here and want to express how grateful the two of us are for the love and support shown to her. I believe that “grateful” is an action word, and I pray that it is exhibited in that regard.

Over the course of the past few months, signs and symptoms associated with Kaitlin’s cancer have escalated negatively. Last fall, she felt fortunate and happy to return to work part-time at a café and maintain a strict dietary and juicing regimen tailored to her care. She implemented these actions in conjunction with seeing a naturopathic doctor in Michigan. The two of us agreed that adopting specific lifestyle changes was imperative given the pace of her cancer’s growth since 2018. Slowing down, bringing flight and hotel stays for treatment to a halt, and settling in a comfortable, familiar place would be both physically and psychologically beneficial in healing.

Kaitlin has been diligent in researching treatment options and suggestions throughout the last two years. She has been educating herself in cancer protocols and medicines conventional and non-conventional, all while seeking any distant hint of what would be successful in tackling her rare form of fetal cell adenocarcinoma of the lungs. Generous donations have enabled her to acquire equipment, supplements, and detoxifying tools for at-home care and assist in affording medication, co-pays, and deductibles.

Last summer and into early fall, Kaitlin’s tumors’ mutations seemed to slow down, but her most recent scans suggest heightened activity coupled with very concerning progression. At this time, she needs a more aggressive approach to not only contain or confine the cancer, but to eradicate it. This winter brought two late evening/early morning visits to the emergency room after she began to consistently cough up blood (a symptom that had not been present until recently). Upon investigation at the hospital, a tumor was discovered to be lodged in a bronchial tube that had gone undetected in a previous PET scan. She underwent surgery to remove about 95% of it and, at that time, also came down with the Omicron variant. Kaitlin will have to undergo another cryotherapy surgery to hopefully remove the remaining mutated cells and debris in the bronchial tube come April. In addition, two lymph nodes (one of which was previously radiated) have grown substantially to the point where they are pressing against sensitive nerves and encroaching on nearby bones and muscle tissue. At this point, conventional therapies offered are palliative in nature, and she is patiently waiting to find out whether her insurance is willing to provide her with hyperbaric oxygen therapy for prior tissue damage related to radiation treatment.

Kaitlin chooses not to share much of these details about her cancer journey because there is so much involved with them. What has been typed here is a very brief snapshot of her life today. She has exhausted many hours of her time, energy, and own resources on this path set before her while still talking about kids and creating a home someday. While researching a cancer care clinic outside the state of Michigan, she also applied for teaching positions relative to the new area, and although being called for an interview, was disheartened to find out that the treatment protocol once there would require 5-8 hours/day of patient involvement at the clinic long term. Her goal is to undergo testing for therapeutics not offered in conventional scale medicine, boost the immune system with a flood of natural therapies, and then destroy the cancer with potent heat and medicinal therapies that will target the tumors. This type of treatment is neither offered nor covered by her insurance company despite her monthly insurance payments of $900+. Kaitlin does not want to be a burden to anyone, which is why she rarely seeks out help and, when she does, still does not advocate for enough.

We are so grateful for the way hundreds blessed Kaitlin this past year. She continues to fight, look for solutions, and remain hopeful in these moments of extreme uncertainty. She is willing to adapt, shift her life again, and subject her mind and body to various methods to regain her health. I find this courageous.

The funds generated from this campaign go directly to Kaitlin for the costs associated with testing and implementation of various long-term therapeutic procedures that are not covered by her insurance. It will also provide financial relief for current and future medications, supplementation, and deductibles.
