Help Kaitlan and Treasure Find a Path out of Homelessness
Hello! and Thank You for coming to this site. Treasure Colladay (my daughter) and I (Kaitlan) have been homeless for almost two years. We lost our apartment when the landlord refused to replace the non-working oven and we insisted. We thought all would be well and moved "temporarily" into a Motel 6. All was well until Treasure's job was terminated. We had savings. The Unemployment Office missed notifying Treasure of the hearing because they got the email wrong and when we tried to get a re-hearing, the magistrate refused. This left us using credit to pay. Treasure secured a job just about a year ago and works full time. We have a modest income, Treasure's job and Kaitlan's Social Security and small VA pension. Since Oct. of 2023 we have been in a motel. No cooking facilities and no help from anywhere. No family. The summer rates at the motel have made it impossible for us to get a room. The cost has prevented us from saving any money to get into an actual home. Because the summer rates have gone beyond our ability to pay, we are now living in our cars. An article in the San Diego Union Tribune was posted/printed on Sunday, June 29, 2025, entitled Invisible Homeless, which gives a moderate description of our life in our cars. It is not thoroughly complete, but it gives a general picture of what we are up against.
Every night we go to sleep scared -- when we can get to sleep. It's difficult trying to get comfortable in the front seat of a car. We made arrangements to take showers at the local YMCA (they are very kind). Our mental and emotional states are very frayed from the stress of living like this for so long. We just need a little help to get deposit money for an apartment and someone to help us move our things out of storage.
Here is a link to our story that was in the Sunday, June 29, 2025 edition of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
