Help Kailey Maintain Independence with an Accessible Van

Hi, my name is Jada, and I’m raising funds for one of my best friends, Kailey Newcity (affectionately known to many as Kk). Kailey is living with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare degenerative neuromuscular disease that affects her coordination, muscle strength, and mobility. Despite these challenges, she faces life with incredible resilience and positivity.

Obtaining wheelchair-accessible transportation is one of Kailey’s biggest challenges right now. Reliable transportation is essential for her to travel to work, attend medical appointments, and visit loved ones. A modified van would provide her with the freedom and independence that we all deserve.

Kailey has successfully completed a modified driving course with a certified instructor and passed her DMV test to earn the corresponding modified driver insignia on her license. To meet the requirements, she now needs a vehicle equipped with a knee-controlled gas and brake system.

The cost of such vehicles is overwhelming, often exceeding $95,000 with modifications. Fortunately, Louisiana Rehab Services (LRS) will assist with the cost of the modifications, but Kailey is still responsible for covering the remaining $53,000. To help ease the financial burden, we’re aiming to raise at least $15,000 for a down payment, which will significantly reduce her monthly costs. Every dollar donated will go directly toward this life-changing goal.
