Hi, my name is Cassie, and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my friend and co-worker Christie and her 14-year-old daughter, Kailani whose life changed in an instant.

She was hospitalized after her lungs collapsed and began filling with fluid. During testing, doctors discovered a tumor and from there, the unimaginable news followed. Kailani was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer.

Since her diagnosis, Kailani has already endured multiple surgeries and procedures, including having a tube placed to help drain fluid from her lungs. Her treatment plan is intense and long-term. She will undergo chemotherapy once a week for a minimum of 10 months, along with five days of radiation. This journey is physically, emotionally, and financially overwhelming especially for a family with six children.

Kailani is one of six siblings — three sisters and two brothers — and she plays a meaningful role in their lives. She is especially loving and supportive to her younger sister who has Type 1 diabetes. Kailani is a deep thinker with a kind heart, gentle spirit, and a creative soul. She loves art, crafts, designing her own clothes and shoes, listening to music, watching anime and K-dramas, and expressing herself creatively. She is a wonderful daughter, sister, and person in every sense of the word.

Christie, her mom, is doing everything she can to be by Kailani’s side. Kailani is receiving treatment in Akron, which requires multiple trips each week for chemotherapy, radiation, follow-ups, and procedures. The cost of gas, travel, meals, time off work, and medical-related expenses adds up quickly and has become a heavy burden during an already devastating time.

All funds raised will go directly to Christie to help cover:

• Travel expenses to and from Akron

• Gas and vehicle wear from frequent trips

• Medical-related costs not covered by insurance

• Daily living expenses while caring for Kailani

• Income replacement for Christie and her household from her missing work
