UPDATE: Kailana is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, March 5. We will deliver her to UC Davis Vet Hospital at 7 am. It is about a 5 hour procedure, and she will remain in the hospital for several days afterward. Then we bring her home and help her make a brilliant recovery. She is a special girl, loving and gentle, playful and cute, with the uncanny ability to make you feel better--to feel good!

Kailana is our 5 1/2-month-old Golden Retriever, who, at 6 weeks, suffered a spinal injury that is affecting her hind legs. They are weak, and she is unsteady on her feet. Following X-rays and a CT scan, the neurology specialists believe surgery can, at the most, repair the spine and allow her an almost fully active and playful life; without surgery, paralysis is inevitable.

She is family, of course, so we are opting for the surgery, which will cost around $18,000. This is difficult for us, but important, and we are asking for any assistance you can afford to make this surgery possible. GoFundMe is not something we have done before—it's new to us.
