Hello friends, family, and kind strangers,

Unfortunately, many of you are already familiar with Kaia's story. Last June, she was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She bravely battled through chemotherapy for 6 months and maintained the strength to go to school, work, and compete for the PLHS track team. She has been able to make the most out of her senior year despite her treatment causing her to miss over 200 class periods, and is still more concerned with helping others than pitying herself. Recently, her doctors told her she can't compete in track anymore, and she immediately pivoted towards using her experience as a senior to help coach the younger athletes.

Throughout the Chemo, her tumors shrank in size, and the doctors decided that it was safe to pull her off of chemo without any radiation therapy. In subsequent checkups, it was apparent that the masses were coming back, and the doctors have now devised a new treatment plan for Kaia.

For the next 3 months, Kaia will be undergoing immunotherapy and a multitude of surgeries to prepare her for an intense 4-6 week hospital stay for an autologous stem cell transplant and very harsh chemotherapy in August/September. This round of treatment is significantly more aggressive, and she won't be able to keep any semblance of a routine like she was able to with her last round of treatment. It is also much more complicated and will be more expensive than the last round was. The donations that we received through the last round of chemotherapy helped make Kaia's treatment possible and allowed our parents to fully support her emotionally and physically with less financial stress.
