Hi! My name is Kaia Davis. I'm a 17-year-old girl who had a relatively “normal” life up until I was 15. Prior to being 15, I knew I definitely felt badly, but I had gotten into a car accident on May 6th, 2023, which basically started the downward spiral. I struggle daily with cardiac issues, more specifically POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), which causes my heart rate to be very elevated, leading to me having episodes of passing out. If I don't pass out, I'm normally dizzy for a while. It also causes my feet to have blood pooling; they turn either purple or very red, and my veins pop out because of poor circulation. I also struggle with reactive hypoglycemia, ulcerative colitis, menorrhagia, anemia, iron deficiency, among other things.
I am in desperate need of a medical alert dog to help identify my problems, but it's very pricey. I'm about to be 18 years old, and I will need extra help at a workplace, out in public, and just in my home. My mother isn't able to be by my side constantly, and I do want to at least be semi-independent one day, haha. My grandma and mom (whom I live with) cannot afford to help with me getting a service animal as we are going through financial difficulties. Anything helps, and it will be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any questions, I don't necessarily know my way around this site yet, but if there's a way to message, please feel free.
These conditions have caused my life to be uprooted in ways I never thought they would. I've lost friends, family, I can't attend my school because of the way I was treated, and so much more. Chronic illness is so much worse than people think, I feel like. Please, if nothing else, pray for me and my mom to be able to continue navigating this.
