This is Kai, he is my gentle giant, 6.5-year-old husky mix. Last night, a wolf entered our yard and Kai not only defended his property but our 6-month-old puppy. He chased the wolf and took it on, fighting it. The wolf was double his size. I awoke at 1:03 am to the sounds of a dog fight, grabbed a gun and a dim flashlight, and ran out the door. I yelled, and the wolf released Kai. I shot in the air, and the wolf bolted. I got Kai back to the house, but he progressively worsened and later in the day was flown into Anchorage to the vet. He has puncture wounds in his rear leg, front leg, below his eye, a torn and blood-filled ear, and a lot of tissue damage on his neck with heavy bruising. His care is going to be a few days as they treat him for this plus infection, and so far, the doctor says he is very, very lucky as it’s obvious that the wolf was very large and strong to do such damage.

I am seeking help to help pay for his care. He is at Midnight Sun Animal Hospital in Anchorage. The estimate is $4000 so far to treat and care for him in the coming days. Kai is a rescue and has been my protector for a year. He keeps vigil over our home and his family; he loves belly scratches and walks on the beach (no kidding! It has to be the beach). I would sincerely appreciate any help you can afford. I have realized that financially I just need help and humbly ask you.
