Help Kai get out of years of medical debt

Donation protected

Hey everyone and, first of all, thank you so much for making your way here. A GoFundMe is something that I kept as the last option for years but, unfortunately, I'm now here. I turned 30 this year and my wife and I have been saving to buy a house next year (hopefully!). My debt is hurting due to the medical debt that has been sitting on top of my student loans for years. For anyone who knows me, you know that I've been sick most of my life, but after surviving 6 cardiac arrests in May of 2020, I was left with having to make a choice. To live or not. 2021 I was finally diagnosed and put on a treatment plan that has saved my life thanks to 3 phenomenal women in healthcare.

Dr. Malgorzata Mysliwiec - Penn Medicine

Dr. Radmila Lyubarova - Albany Medical Center

and Dr. Tanya Laidlaw - Brigham and Women's Hospital

Elena - My wife and guardian angel. She did CPR on me in the first critical moments, knew who to call, and kept my spirit alive in the ICU. She was there with me. She is there with me and always will be there with me.

What is AERD/Samter’s Triad?

Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD), also known as Samter’s Triad or Aspirin Sensitive Asthma, is a chronic medical condition that consists of asthma, recurrent sinus disease with nasal polyps, and a sensitivity to aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Approximately 10% of all adults with asthma and 40% of patients with asthma and nasal polyps are sensitive to aspirin and NSAIDs. The fourth annual AERD Awareness Day is September 26, 2021.

Not many people are aware of AERD, but the most striking part is the fact that my AERD specialist had never seen such a critical case before mine. My question is, why?

I chose the path towards moving forward and am incredibly happy to say I made it. I have a great job! Incredible, actually, but, I am currently out on disability due to having to get my wisdom teeth out. I have been in pain for the past couple weeks and have to be extra cautious of what I take for medication. My surgery date has been pushed twice and now it is delayed, again, because I have to wait 5 days to get a Covid test. I still do not know an exact date for surgery, so I cannot submit for short term disability, so I am currently on unpaid leave. Prior to surgery, I need to have all my specialists coordinate as I am a high risk patient since I am on a blood thinner and have a severe aspirin allergy that can lead to heart spasm, which can lead to cardiac arrest. I am drowning in medical debt and, everyday, receive collection notices, PAST DUE stamps, and so on. I can't keep up. I am not here to ask for much. My only dream is to get out of debt and start truly living so I can give my wife and dog the life they deserve.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for the consideration. Please feel free to read the article that I'm featured in for Arizona PBS regarding transgender heart health. It will be published in the coming weeks.

Thank you again and take care everyone.
