A couple days ago while giving Kai his daily pet down, hugs and kisses, I noticed an unusual lump on his back right leg. Being the worried fur mom I am, I immediately called the vet and set up an appointment.
As soon as the veterinarian felt the lump, she looked at me and told me it wasn't good. My heart sank. That's something you never want to hear about your fur babies.
She explained to me that she believes it is something called an "injection site sarcoma" which is a cancerous tumor caused by a rabies vaccination Kai was given in the past. She also said that cancer in cats is very rare (1 in 10,000 cats get it) and it is very, very aggressive. She went over options, one of which is possible amputation of his leg.
After hours of crying, it's finally settled in that my 6 year old cat, who has been healthy as ever besides this, and who I thought would live to be the oldest cat on earth, has cancer.
As you can imagine, all the tests, blood work, and surgery are not cheap. Mitch and I have already spent over $2,000 out of pocket, and that's only on tests and vet visits.
I know a lot of people would never think of spending that much money on a cat...but they don't know our cat. Kai is, without a doubt, the friendliest cat I have ever met. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him can agree. He loves people, greets me every morning, loves to sit on my shoulders, cuddles with me every night, hugs me when I get out of the shower, and lovesssss playing fetch with his favorite toy mouse. It breaks my heart that he is the 1 out of 10,000 cats to get this. He doesn't deserve it.
Mitch and I recently got engaged and have been trying to save money for our wedding, but since this unexpected emergency arose, it puts us in a tight situation. We are never the type to ask for money, but we don't know what else to do. We will pay whatever it takes to save our baby, but we really need some help.
As I stated before, we already spent over $2,000 on his tests and vet visits alone, and we haven't even started the process yet. We still have radiation treatment, possible chemotherapy, and possibly a surgery to amputate his leg. As most of you know, vet bills are not cheap.
Anything will help! Even $5. Please find it in the kindness of your heart to help us save our sweet Kai.
