Help Kai and Luna, two loving huskies, get life-saving surgeries

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea to help my sweet 6-year-old male Siberian Husky, Kai, who urgently needs surgery for a condition called a sialocele, and my 7-year-old female Siberian Husky, Luna, who needs surgery on her eye to remove a cyst that is impacting her vision. Unfortunately, as life has continued to challenge me, both fur babies need surgery at the same time.

Kai - A sialocele is a salivary gland issue where saliva leaks and builds up under the skin, causing painful swelling. For Kai, it’s developed into a growing lump under his chin, on the left side of his throat, that makes it uncomfortable to eat, sleep, and even breathe at times unless he is on antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain meds, which is not sustainable or healthy for him to remain on long term. Although the medications have significantly helped the swelling and his comfort level, his vet has confirmed that surgery is the only option to resolve this and prevent it from coming back or becoming infected.

If you know me, you know that my dogs are quite literally my world. But Kai? Kai is my soul brother. He’s my polar bear mousey. He’s my hiking buddy, always helping me find our way when we get lost. He’s goofy, smart, and full of personality — he is my soul in furry form. Seeing him like this, in pain and not his usual playful self, has been heartbreaking and not being able to provide him with the surgery he needs is a feeling I cannot explain.

Kai’s surgery requires a specialty surgeon, as a general vet surgeon is not trained or qualified to perform such intricate and high-risk surgeries as this. Kai’s surgery, including imaging, anesthesia, the procedure itself, and pre and post-op care, is estimated at around $6,000 — a cost I simply can’t cover on my own. I hate that I am unable to fix and heal him myself. Asking for help is hard, but I don’t know what else to do.

Luna - Luna has developed a cyst on her eyelid that is growing and now pressing against her eye. It’s causing irritation, discomfort, and is beginning to affect her vision. I have to wipe her eye several times a day, give her drops to prevent infection, and monitor the cyst, which sometimes leaks blood. Unfortunately, Luna’s vet confirmed that this cyst will not heal on its own — and that surgery is the only option to prevent further damage to her eye.

Luna is my oldest of 4 huskies in my house. She is the only female and she is my Queen Bee and the leader of our pack. She has been with me through the absolute darkest and most heartbreaking moments of my life. Luna is my ride or die. She is a lover, full of sass and attitude. I wouldn’t have gotten through some of the times I have without her.

The cost of Luna’s surgery, including pre-op bloodwork, anesthesia, the procedure, and follow-up care, is expected to be around $2,000. Unfortunately, this surgery is risky, as post-op care is imperative. The good news is that a general surgeon is able to perform this surgery for Luna, as long as her healing process goes smoothly. However, the longer she waits for her surgery, the larger her cyst grows and more risks develop.

If you’re able to donate, every single dollar helps. Truly. Neither of these surgeries can happen as of now because I am not in a financial position to pay for their surgeries upfront. I am now raising them and my other two huskies alone and on a teacher's salary.
