Help Kai Afford Top Sugery

Who is Kai?

Kai Wolfe is my husband. He is an artist who is unable to work a normal job due to a disability. Kai began socially transitioning about three years ago, and he has been on hormone therapy (T) for 22 months. Since both of us work online, we do not have access to affordable health insurance - especially living in Texas where these sorts of surgeries are rarely covered.

What is Top Surgery?

Top surgery is a type of total mastectomy that removes the breasts and sculpts the patient's chest into a masculine shape. If we are able to meet all (or at least most of) our goal, we should be able to schedule this surgery within a month!

Kai will need a minimum of 2+ weeks to recover, during which time he will have limited mobility. I will need to take time away from work to look after Kai while he heals.

What will Top Surgery mean for Kai?

Kai has wanted a breast reduction ever since I first met him in 2013. Not just to alleviate strain on his back, but also so that he can run and exercise without them causing him pain. Going for full top surgery will not only aid in his transition, but it will also enable him to live a healthier lifestyle.

We have already consulted with a plastic surgeon for the cost, which will be about $9,400 for the surgery itself. We must also consider recovery time and follow-up visits. It is difficult to estimate exactly how much everything will cost at the moment, but it's safe to assume that the total will exceed $10,000.
