Hi, my name is Kahteya and I’m 17 years old. A few weeks ago, my life completely changed when I was diagnosed with blastomycosis, a rare and serious fungal infection that spread into my bones and joints. It has caused severe pain, swelling, and complications that have led to multiple doctor visits, scans, procedures, and hospital stays.

Right now, I need medication that is lifesaving, but extremely expensive. My insurance will only cover part of the treatment, and in order for me to continue being treated outside the hospital, I need to pay out-of-pocket. If I can’t afford the medication at home, I may have to stay in the hospital for a long time—something my family simply cannot afford. This infection has taken a physical and emotional toll on me. I’m trying to stay strong, keep up with school when I can, and stay hopeful that I’ll recover fully.
