I didn’t want to have to do this, but here it goes.
Kahlua is one of the best dogs you could ever meet. She loves everyone, never runs away, and has the sweetest soul—which somehow feels like it’s only meant she’d been dealt the worst cards in life.
In 2022, Kahlua was diagnosed with Evans syndrome and has been on long-term medication ever since. We’ve had ups and downs, but right now we’re facing the lowest down yet.
Late Sunday night, Kahlua began vomiting and continued into the next day. She was taken to my workplace to be assessed and hospitalized, where they discovered an inflamed pancreas, bladder stones, and gallstones. After one night, she was transferred to MedVet for specialty care.
At MedVet, things took a more serious turn. In addition to everything already found, Kahlua was diagnosed with a septic abdomen. Because the source of the infection was unknown, she was taken into emergency surgery for an abdominal exploratory. It’s suspected she may have suffered a bowel perforation from an ulcer caused by her long-term medication.
As I write this, Kahlua is still in surgery.
The medical bills are rapidly piling up, and this is happening at the same time we’re trying to sell our house and purchase a new one. If you’re able to donate—even just $1—or share this post, it would mean more to us than I can put into words.
Thank you for loving Kahlua with us. ❤️
