We have a new water well in Kenya!

Good afternoon! We have a new well in Kenya! Isn’t that great news? We are thrilled to share with you that after four months of effort to obtain permits, sign easements, and negotiate contracts, our new 470-foot deep well was drilled in early August 2025. This is the direct result of the funds raised from the March 15, 2025, ‘Avis Berry and Friends’ concert.

This picture of water flowing from a pipe onto the ground is part of a required pumping test to establish the volume of water we can expect to be able to extract going forward. This test also established the size pump needed along with other cost factors. From this information, our contractor has provided a quotation to purchase and install the permanent pump, wiring, and piping to get the well flowing cool, clean water and connected to our existing water storage tank.

Drilling and casing the new well has used almost all the funds raised by the Avis Berry concert in March 2025. We have about $1,885 remaining in our account and need $5,600 to install and connect the pump. Once we install the pump and piping, we will continue to raise funds to expand the system to provide cool, clean water to approximately twenty additional multi-home sites. Our total project goal is $30,000, which will allow us to expand the system to include an additional 20 multi-family sites for water access.

If you are new to our project, in 2023 we dug a well in the village of Kaguma, Kenya, under the leadership of Amon Rwito. With the cooperation of Element3 Church in Tallahassee, Florida, we also built a large storage tank and piped water to a dozen multi-family distribution sites, each with its own storage tank. Prior to this, the women of the village had to walk a mile to the river and then carry back the water in heavy containers on their backs. A drought in 2024-25 meant the original 75-foot deep well often ran dry, so we began fundraising for a drilled, steel-cased well.

Thanks for your participation in the Kenya Water Project up until now, and we hope that you will continue to support this incredible project. To think that people having to carry their drinking and cooking water a mile from the river on their back will be able to have this water piped to their homesite is just incredible. Way to go!
