Hi everyone,
First, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Robbie, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister, Kaelani (Kai or KJ), who is 27 years old.
Kai is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. She genuinely cares for everyone around her and often goes out of her way to help others. While she’s been hesitant to ask for support—wanting to avoid burdening anyone—after much encouragement, she’s agreed to let me share her story.
In March 2024, Kai was diagnosed with Stage 1A1 cervical cancer. She acted swiftly, undergoing cervical conization surgery to remove the cancer, and we were hopeful that this would be the end of her ordeal. However, in July 2024, she began experiencing abnormal bleeding and sought further evaluation. After a biopsy, the results revealed Clear Cell Cervical Cancer, a rare and aggressive form, affecting only 1% of cervical cancer cases.
To combat the cancer, her oncologist recommended a hysterectomy, which means she will no longer be able to carry children. This is particularly heartbreaking for Kai, who has always dreamed of being a mother and was even awarded the title of "Mother Hen" at summer camp for her nurturing demeanor.
On October 4th, she consulted with her infertility doctor about options to preserve her ability to have children in the future. They have started hormone treatment for an egg retrieval procedure, with plans to freeze her eggs for potential surrogacy. By mid-October, she aims to undergo the egg retrieval before proceeding with the hysterectomy on October 30th.
Here’s where we need your help. Following the surgery, Kai will be on bed rest for two weeks and will miss work for a total of eight weeks of work. While some medical costs are covered, the expenses are still significant. She will receive only 60% of her income during her recovery. The funds raised through this GoFundMe will go toward her hysterectomy, cancer treatments, medications, egg retrieval and storage, follow-up care, and living expenses during her recovery.
Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and support. Every donation, share, and kind word means the world to Kai. Your help is providing her with the strength to face these challenges and the hope for a future where she can one day build the family she dreams of.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Robbie
