Help Kaela and Winnie Recover from Coyote Attack
Donation protected
On behalf of the Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon Board of Directors, we’re reaching out to ask for your support for our dear friend, fellow board member, band coach, and all-around rad human Kaela, along with her incredible daughter Ophelia, a GRCS camper, and their sweet dog Winny.
Recently, while Kaela was out at her barn, Winny spotted a threat in the distance and bolted ahead. In an instant, a devastating fight broke out. In a desperate attempt to protect her daughter’s beloved companion, Kaela threw herself into the chaos. Both she and Winnie sustained serious injuries in the attack and required immediate emergency medical attention.
Kaela is now at home and slowly recovering from her physical wounds, but she has been unable to work since the incident. Meanwhile, Winny continues to need consistent veterinary boarding and ongoing care to heal safely and comfortably. The financial toll of medical bills, vet costs, and lost income is mounting—and that's just the surface.
As anyone who knows her will tell you, Kaela is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back. She shows up, she supports, and she uplifts. Through her work with Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon, Kaela has helped shape and empower generations of future musicians, artists, and community activists. Her passion and compassion are at the heart of everything she does.
While their physical healing is underway, there’s a long road ahead in terms of emotional and psychological recovery. This experience has been deeply traumatic for Kaela, Ophelia, and their family. As her community, we want to do what we can to lighten the financial burden so Kaela can focus on healing—without the added stress of mounting bills.
If you're able to give, any amount will make a difference. Funds raised will go directly toward:
- Ongoing veterinary care and boarding costs for Winny
- Medical expenses not covered by insurance
- Living costs while Kaela is off work
- Mental health supports for Kaela and Ophelia
If you'd prefer to donate outside of GoFundMe to avoid service fees, contributions can also be e-transferred directly to Aryn Otterbein (fullname at gmail dot com)
Please share this fundraiser widely. Kaela has given so much to our community—it’s time for us to show up for her.
