The Adventures of TubaMan.... Chapter titled "Gratefulness."
Hey Shipmates, Happy Sunday to you.
I'm Kabin and I am a radio host who moonlights as a medical specimens courier for Lab Logistics in Denver.
I hope your Thanksgiving was everything you needed it to be, whether that was peace, pie, or people who know how to bring the good energy.
So here is my Thanksgiving story.
I am a grateful person by nature. Yes, sometimes I come across like an asshole. I know. But deep down, I am just happy to be alive and trying like hell to leave this planet better than I found it.
I love my job at the radio station. I really do. However, I have bills I am trying to get behind me and took a job as a Medical Specimens Courier to stay afloat. I decided about three weeks ago to moonlight as a medical specimens courier. I Love It!
I drive about 300 miles a day. I work eight to ten more hours as a driver after finishing at the radio station. I sleep one to three hours a night and I love doing it because I love helping those who need specimens moved around and because I want to be a good husband while my wife is dealing with spine pain and limited pay.
So that is the setup. Now here is the punchline.
Saturday night, November 29th, about 6 hours into my driving shift, my sweet car broke down while I was delivering a box of blood from Northglenn to Denver and I ended up in Arvada. I thought it was a fuel line thing. Turns out it is the evaporation sensor in my 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. And my brakes are shit.
Absolute Perfection, Baby.
I rolled into the Arvada Adams County Station 11 Firehouse. They were incredibly kind and let me sit there while I called Uber and set up towing and tried to keep the blood from staging its own protest. The sample got where it needed to go. Life kept moving.
Today I looked at the numbers. In two weeks of courier work, I made about one thousand five hundred dollars. The repair bill is one thousand six hundred dollars. That means my current bank account balance is two hundred forty eight dollars and twenty nine cents and my desire to dig myself out of financial debt has placed me more in financial debt than when I started.
I burst out laughing and I have not stopped laughing because what else can you do? This life is so utterly wondrous and ridiculous and beautiful. Sometimes it kicks us in the sack and we really must thank it for the privilege.
I am so grateful for the joy of being alive on a giant ball of rock floating through infinite nothingness around a sun ninety three million miles away in a Universe where we do not even know why we are here and how we got here to begin with. And that our being here is so improbable that it boggles the mind. That fact that we didn't end up in someone's mouth or in a sock or up an ass is some mind-numbing luck, no matter how you slice it. We should not even be here, yet.... here we are.
And that beats any problem.
That Beats Any worry.
That Beats Any "calamity."
If you can help with $5.00, it places me that much closer to getting my car back and me getting back on the road.
That is all.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
We are amazingly lucky people and I love the fuck out of you.
Sincerely,
kabin
