Help Us Support K9 Bak – A Retired Hero Fighting Cancer
Who We Are:
The El Dorado County Canine Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports active and retired working dogs in El Dorado County. These incredible K9s put their lives on the line to protect our community—but when they retire, they lose financial coverage for medical care.
Why We Need Your Help:
We’re reaching out to support K9 Bak, a retired El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office K9 recently diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma, a terminal cancer that is quickly spreading. He has begun chemotherapy and supportive care to ease his symptoms and prolong his quality of life.
The Cost of Care:
Bak’s treatment is expected to cost between $14,000 and $16,000. All funds raised will go directly to his medical expenses and comfort care. Any funds exceeding the cost of Baks care will go directly in a fund to support other El Dorado County working K9’s.
K9 Bak’s Story:
• Served from 2016–2019 with Sergeant Hamon in the EDSO Patrol Division
• Certified in obedience, tracking, apprehension, narcotics detection, and more
• Deployed hundreds of times, responsible for over 100 apprehensions
• A SKIDDS-certified SWAT K9 and loyal protector
• A gentle soul who stole hearts at community events and school demos
• Retired in 2020 and now lives with the Hamon family, enjoying a well-earned rest
Even in retirement, Bak continues to bring joy and love to everyone he meets. Now, he needs us.
How You Can Help:
Please consider donating to help cover the cost of Bak’s treatment. Every dollar counts and brings us closer to giving this hero the opportunity to go on his daily walks, play ball at the field with his handler and spend time with the family he calls his own.
Donate, share, and support K9 Bak’s fight.
Thank you for standing by those who have stood by us.
