Justin was born with Myelomeningocele, the most severe form of spina bifida — a birth defect in which the spinal column fails to close completely during early development. As a result, he faces multiple complex medical challenges, including severe hip dysplasia, hyperextended knees, clubbed feet, bladder and bowel incontinence, and paralysis from the knees down.
Despite these difficulties, Justin continues to face each day with courage and determination. He currently uses a wheelchair for mobility and has already undergone 14 surgical procedures to support his health and improve his quality of life. His 15th surgery is scheduled for December 2025, a remarkable milestone for someone only 11 years old.
Despite the odds, Justin lives a full and active life. He not only loves playing sports but excels at them. He has played sports outside his house from a very young age. Justin has been involved in athletics — often playing right alongside his able-bodied peers. He played flag football with a local team as their quarterback, showing impressive skill, leadership, and determination.
Today, he continues to thrive in basketball, competing with able-bodied kids and giving his all in every game. He participates in all local events that gives the opportunity for adaptative sports, embracing every opportunity to be part of the community and to challenge himself.
The first time he used a sports wheelchair opened up an entirely new world for him — one filled with freedom, speed, and possibility. From that moment on, Justin discovered not just a way to play, but a way to express his strength, passion, and unstoppable spirit. It gave him the confidence to chase his dreams and to see that there are no limits to what he can achieve.
To move forward with those dreams, Justin now needs a custom sports wheelchair. This specialized chair will give him the flexibility, speed, and agility he needs to compete safely and effectively — allowing him to turn on a dime, maneuver with precision, and continue doing what he loves most: playing sports and inspiring everyone around him.
Beyond the chair, Justin’s family continues to outfit his home to be wheelchair accessible. He would love a hand driven bicycle for use around the neighborhood as well. He strives to stay active and break barriers!
