Thirteen years ago in Brazil, I held a tiny Shih Tzu puppy who would become my closest companion. His calm and gentle nature draws people in, and he communicates with his eyes in a way that touches everyone he meets. Friends often joke that he's like a wise soul trapped in a dog's body - his serene presence and profound way of connecting with humans sets him apart.

Seven Years Apart

Leaving Brazil alone at 18 to pursue opportunities in America meant leaving Justin behind—the hardest decision of my life. For seven long years, we connected through video calls, photos, and a few in-person visits when I returned to my home country. During that time, I was trying to figure out ways for us to spend more time together. Each call strengthened my promise to reunite with my best friend. I watched him age through a screen while building a life that could accommodate us both.

Finally, in July 2024, I was able to fly him here to the U.S, and our reunion was everything I had imagined. While having him here fills my heart with joy, we're now facing a serious medical challenge that requires immediate attention.

Current Medical Needs

Justin has been battling severe chronic ear infections that have progressively worsened. His ear canals contain masses, polyps, and potentially malignant tumors. Despite investing in various treatments and medications here, relief remains temporary. Each day, I watch my beloved companion struggle with constant pain, yet his gentle nature persists.

Justin takes multiple daily medications to manage inflammation, infection, and discomfort. While these provide brief periods of relief, his condition continues to deteriorate. His veterinary team has thoroughly examined his case, and they all agree on the necessary course of action.

Even through his discomfort, Justin maintains his loving demeanor. The veterinary staff here consistently note his exceptional calmness during treatments. His ability to stay gentle and loving, even through pain, speaks volumes about his character.

The Surgery

The veterinary team recommends Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy (TECABO) surgery for both ears - the most effective solution for Justin's condition. Here's what we're facing:
