Help Justin Rebuild After Tragic Shooting

Help Justin Sicat Rebuild His Life After a Senseless Act of Gun Violence

Hi, my name is Dominik, and I’m a family friend of Justin Sicat: a hardworking father, devoted partner, passionate bowler, and proud resident of Des Plaines, IL. I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of Justin and his family during the most challenging time of their lives.

On the night of July 12, while driving home from his bowling league, something he enjoyed and excelled at, Justin became the innocent victim of a senseless act of gun violence. While traveling on I-90 in Chicago, he was tragically misidentified as a gang member and shot in the head in a drive-by shooting. His vehicle crashed on the interstate, and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he remained unconscious for several weeks.

He is only 33 years old and a proud father to two young children: a 3-year-old daughter and an 11-month-old son. His life revolved around his kids, his love for bowling, and his job at O’Hare Airport, where he’s worked since 2013 with United Airlines.

Justin had recently enlisted in the Air Force, with plans to begin basic training next month to serve his country and build a career in the military. That mission, and so much more, was taken from him in a single, tragic moment.

What Happened

The shooter, a 22-year-old man, later turned himself in and has been charged with attempted murder. But it is Justin and his family who are left to live with the lifelong impact of that senseless act of gun violence.

Justin suffered a devastating gunshot wound to the front left side of his head. The injury destroyed part of his skull and led to the loss of his left eye. He now faces another surgery to receive a bone transplant to reconstruct his forehead.

His Current Condition

Justin has miraculously regained consciousness, but he faces an uphill battle every day. He cannot walk or write and struggles with memory and coordination. He is in constant pain, and doctors predict he will never live or work independently again.

He now needs round-the-clock support. He will never be able to return to his regular job, drive a car, or live the active life he once enjoyed.

What Your Support Will Help Cover

Justin and his family are now facing overwhelming challenges, both physically and financially. Your donation will help cover:

  • Medical bills and surgical costs
  • Long-term physical and neurological therapy
  • Lost wages and income
  • Home modifications and accessible housing
  • Childcare for his two young kids
  • A lifetime of care and support needs

He had a bright future. Now, he needs our help to reclaim just a piece of it.

Please Help Justin and His Family

If you are able, please consider donating. Every amount helps, no matter how small. And if you cannot give right now, please help us by sharing this fundraiser with others.

Thank you for your love, support, and prayers. Justin has a long road ahead, but with your help, he won’t have to travel it alone.

With gratitude,

Dominik
