Hello, my name is Justin Jones of Bartlesville. As of August 2020, I was diagnosed with stage 4 liver failure caused by Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. On top of that, I have the subset known as Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis. I've never drunk alcohol, never done drugs. I was cursed with poor genetics as my uncle died of this same illness in 2019. The only reason I found out about the liver failure was because I had to have a cholecystectomy to remove my gallbladder. It was at that point they visualized an issue with the liver and thus began my journey through this illness. They initially gave me 3 years to live, but I am still here in the 4th year. I am still being ravaged by the effects of the illness. Ascites that need to be drained periodically, and episodes of hepatic encephalopathy which causes me to lose all mental function and get confused, and currently I am dealing with a GI bleed. In the meantime, I have to wait for a call for a transplant. I have gone through a rollercoaster ride when it comes to emotional highs and lows. I have been through 5 transplant requests, all ending in failure.
To make matters worse, to even get on the waitlist for an organ, you must work with a donation organization. In my case, this was the National Foundation of Transplants. They made a specific page for me to raise $5000 for post-transplant care. Fast forward to now and the NFT is closing down and specifically advised all transplant fundraisers that the money wasn't specified for anyone in particular, but was meant to be an unrestricted donation to the "NFT Mission". This means that all the donors that raised money with the NFT, are now out of all of those donations. This includes a donation from my ex-boss who donated $3400 and then passed away himself. I feel like NFT intentionally maliciously wrote into their terms regarding who "owns" the donations and now hurts all those who were going to rely on it for post-transplant expenses. Fortunately, Integris Medical Center didn't remove me from the list now that I lack those funds, but said they would look for alternative means of funding.
In the meantime, I am starting this GoFundMe in hopes of helping with pre and post-transplant expenses. Any amount is graciously accepted. Thank you and let's hope that the NFT gets a class action lawsuit placed against them and the patients get their donated money back.
