Help with Expenses during Colton’s Recovery
Donation protected
I’m Melanie Canepa and I am dear friend of the Loewen’s. This local family is a huge contributor to the ag world and horse community. Justin Loewen is a local farrier and wife Shelly, is a stay at home and homeschooling mom of Meredith (2), Rett (10) and Colton (12). Unfortunately, this year has been full of challenges for this family, but their faith and love holds them strong. The Loewen family deserves nothing less than a little help from their friends, loved-ones and the community during this difficult time.
On Friday December 23, 2022, their son Colton was in serious 4-wheeler accident. He was flown by helicopter to UC DAVIS and upon arrival had multiple CT scans that revealed he had a broken nose, multiple fractures around his eyes and face and a fractured skull, along with a brain bleed. His whole face was swollen and his eyes were swollen shut.
After multiple days in ICU, Colton was moved to the general pediatric division. Shortly after being moved, he began showing signs of infection. Another CT scan was done to show the infection was located in the sinus cavity which had been compromised due to one of the fractures in his skull.
Thursday December 29, Colton had surgery to address the sinus cavity. Upon entering the skull, they discovered much more swelling and infection which led to a more complex procedure. He will need to be in ICU for an additional week at minimum to monitor the swelling and infection. Once he is released, Colton will need another surgery two months into recovery to seal off the portion of the brain that is still exposed due the severity of the swelling.
Please help bring this boy home! Let’s do the best we can to assist in his recovery expenses and lessen the burden for these wonderful people and the long road to recovery.
