I recently received a call from someone who had a mini goat in need of a home. She was living alone in a pen and was incredibly lonely, so of course, I couldn't say no. Mike and Jacob went to pick her up, and on the drive home, Mike called to say there was a squishy mass on her side. I immediately called the vet, and we were able to get an appointment two days later. The vet and I both thought it might be a cyst that needed to be drained, but when we tried, nothing happened. The vet recommended an ultrasound, and we discovered that June has a trauma hernia that needs to be repaired so she doesn't risk rupturing it when she plays with the other goats.
Over the past year, I've had a lot of vet bills—adopting Bentley and having his leg removed, and caring for Lola, who has diabetes and needs monthly vet visits and medication. I never turn down an animal in need, and June, as we've named her, is the sweetest little goat who loves people and deserves a chance to live out her days happy and healthy. If you'd prefer, you can donate directly to the Spearfish Animal Clinic, where June will be treated. I never ask for help, but right now, I could use all the support I can get to save her. If you can't donate, please share this with friends. The sooner we can get her surgery done, the better life she'll have.
