My name is June Marie, and I’m the playwright and director of The Cause Is You. The play follows Dr. Joyce, a psychologist who treats people with various mental health conditions, including suicide, and the role she plays in the characters' plan of care.

This story was born from the loss of my grandmother, whom I had the profound honor of caring for. Making decisions about her care meant facing choices that shaped her final moments—choices I still replay, wondering if I could have done more.

Many of us know that quiet ache—the “what ifs” that come when love and responsibility intertwine. The Cause Is You invites audiences to reflect on those moments, to find compassion in the gray areas, and to see the humanity in both care and loss.

In February 2026, The Cause Is You will have eight ticketed performances at Guild Hall in New York City.
