In April of this year, Mom found a lump on her side, below her armpit near her breast. On May 2nd, she went in to have a biopsy completed. On May 5th, she got the call informing her it was cancer. For over 3 months since her diagnosis, she's been poked, prodded, scanned, tested - you name it, it's been done. Finally, on June 21st, she went in for surgery to have a lumpectomy completed on what we thought/were told was breast cancer. The path results came back showing no breast cancer, but it was lung cancer that matched up to a biopsy she had of her lung. On August 20th, Mom and Jeff went to the oncologist in hopes to finally have a treatment plan in place. The doctor then uttered the words Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, no cure.
Discussion then took place on what the next steps are. They are sending her tissue sample out for more testing to see if it carries a specific gene that would allow her to try immunotherapy in hopes to keep the cancer at bay and hopefully help prolong her life a little more. If she is not able to do the immunotherapy then the chemo pill is the next option.
Mom has been out of work for over a month due to surgery, PTO and sick leave is exhausted as well. Money is very tight with having to pay medical bills, gas to drive back and forth to Tampa for appointments, everyday essentials like groceries and living expenses... and now the thought of very very expensive medication is wearing on her and her husband.
If you could find it in your heart to help June, in any way possible, it would be beyond appreciated by all of us who love her dearly...... to the moon and back.
