It all began on January 7th at 4 am when my mom woke up to my dad having a seizure. When he arrived to the ER they were originally treating him for stroke, but after the first CT scan, determined he hadn’t had a stroke, but there was something abnormal in his brain. The MRI showed that there was a brain tumor. It was actually a pretty big tumor and needed attention immediately. After worsening symptoms, surgery was finally scheduled for February 9.
Surgery took 11 hours and the surgeon was able to get 90% of the tumor. The remaining 10% was in a position, that if removed, it would permanently impact his speech. After the biopsy was complete it was determined that he had a Grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma with a mutation that would require radiation and chemotherapy.
My dad is currently undergoing both treatments and has recently been discharged from Occupational Therapy. He is working on Speech and Physical therapy. He is currently unable to work and drive.
He is a treasured husband, father, brother, friend, and so much more. He means so much to so many! In being dealt this cruel fate, he has also shown his strength and selflessness. He never complains about his situation and he has navigated the invisible challenges of his illness, such as the emotional toll and physical changes.
Thank you if you are able to donate; even if you can’t please share this and keep my dad and family in your prayers.
