My name is Julius Mercer, and my journey has been shaped by both struggle and hope. As a former world-class hurdler at Kansas State University and a lived experience health researcher from Northwestern University, I’ve faced overwhelming challenges—academic struggles, bullying, and the weight of a genetic predisposition to mental health issues. At just twenty-six, I was diagnosed with PTSD after surviving suicide ideations, all while running professional track and working as a social worker. For over two decades, I suffered in silence, afraid to speak out due to stigma. This led to repeated hospitalizations, substance abuse, incarceration, and homelessness. But a single conversation with a healthcare provider sparked hope and set me on a new path.
Since then, I’ve become a self-published author and motivational speaker, sharing my story and giving away free books to those who need encouragement, regardless of their background. In addition, I have keynoted several events to raise funds or draw awareness to mental wellness and work productivity. I’ve learned the power of mentorship, early intervention, and the importance of giving back. My mission now is to break the stigma around mental health and inspire others to seek help and believe in themselves.
With your support, I’ll be hosting mobile holiday and 2026 Power Boost forums at shelters, schools, and community events across the U.S.A. Funds will help me refill book inventory, print suicide prevention pamphlets, purchase supplies, and cover vendor fees. Together, we can bring hope, resources, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most. Please join me in making a difference—your support truly matters.
