Hello friends,

My name is Grog Verbeck, and I am organizing on behalf of my friend Julio Romero, whom I met in San Cosme, Baja California Sur over 20 years ago. Julio is battling type 1 diabetes along with subsequent kidney failure, and we are rallying together to raise funds for medication and a portable dialysis machine that can take home to his family's multigenerational ranch in San Cosme.

Julio is not just a friend, he is the jefe of his family's rancho. As the oldest son, he leads ranch operations. Whenever I visit with my family and friends, Julio is the first to welcome us with open arms, offering to take us on mule rides and inviting us to share meals in their communal kitchen with his parents (founders of the ranch and now great grandparents) Guadelupe and Elejo. His generosity is inspiring, always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it's fixing a car, providing a ride to the nearest city of Loreto, taking you out fishing, or taking action after snake bites.

Due to the remote location of San Cosme, Julio cannot regularly access dialysis treatments in Loreto and La Paz. His health has been deteriorating rapidly, and he urgently needs a portable dialysis machine and proper medication to sustain his life and continue supporting his family and their ranch business.

During my last visit in January 2024, Julio was in really poor shape. We sat talking underneath the ranch’s palapa and he told me "I'm tough, Gregorio, I'm tough." Words that show the strength, determination, and love he embodies every day.

For anyone who has experienced the warm hospitality of the Romeros, you understand the depth of their generosity despite their limited resources. Now is our chance to give back and support Julio in this critical time.
