Hello everyone, I am Julio Delgado II. For everyone who doesn't know me, I was born and raised in Port Arthur, TX. Because of the education I received through Port Arthur ISD, I was able to receive a scholarship and go to Lamar University.
In my time as a Lamar University student, I have served my community and have been involved in many great organizations. I was the Treasurer for the American Marketing Association, a founding member of the UNIDAD Scholars Program (formerly known as Mi Socio), and the House Speaker for the Student Government Association at Lamar University. Additionally, I was a student organizer in programming for first-generation students and Latino/a students during President Kenneth Evans' administration.
In 2021, Isaías Eli Delgado (my youngest brother), passed due to complications from COVID-19. Being from a single-parent household with limited funds, I made the difficult decision to not register in 2021-2022 to help my family during the most difficult times we have faced. Due to this situation, I have been unable to pay off the past-due balance necessary to register for upcoming semesters. Additionally, I am unable to gain access to official transcripts necessary to defer funding or qualify for future funding from my scholarship program. In other words, I risk losing funding for graduate school if this issue isn't resolved.
I did not want to result to having to fundraise for my own education. I truly believe in working for my dreams and paying my own dues. However, after working for 6 months and trying to contact President Jaime Taylor, I am unable to proceed without some type of assistance. I have given much to this institution and to my community... And it is my hope to finish my degree at Lamar University and use that knowledge to continue giving to Southeast Texas.
