ABOUT ME

After completing my Master's degree in Jazz Studies (University of Northern Colorado), spending countless hours on developing my skills as a jazz vocalist, and working hard on original material... I am finally ready to record my debut album!

I am originally from Huron, OH, and currently live and work in northern Colorado. I teach private voice and piano lessons at Flourish Music Academy (Greeley) and Laramie County Community College (Cheyenne, WY), I'm on the music team at New Thought NoCo Center for Spiritual Living, and I perform when I'm able. Unfortunately, the pandemic resulted in a significant dip in income for musicians like myself; gigs are few and far between. That’s why I need your help!

THE BAND

It’s been a long-standing dream of mine to put together a jazz quartet of women. It’s no secret that jazz is a historically male-dominated field... however, that is changing every day! A group of women playing music is NOT a novelty concept; it is simply another option, correcting an imbalance. Most recently, I’ve been inspired by groups like ARTEMIS, säje, and the Diva Jazz Orchestra. I personally thrive in the company/energy of other women, and I’m lucky enough to have pals in CO who are perfect for this project: Amaya Arevalo (keys), Domi Edson (bass) and Mckenna Reeve (drums). They are all killing, versatile musicians who play with sensitivity, intuition and skill.

The four of us recently collaborated a remote recording of “Bye Bye Blackbird”! Check out the video above.

THE ALBUM

This album will consist of both original material and jazz repertoire. If you followed my “30 Songs 30 Days” challenge in February, you’ll recognize some of the original material! It's important to me that this project reflect who I am as a person; themes include dealing with depression and anxiety, feminism and empowerment.

My sound is heavily influenced by the blues. You'll hear a lot of that on this record, as well as an emphasis on improvisation. Scat singing is my favorite thing about singing jazz! I'm influenced by classic vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O'Day, as well as contemporary jazz vocalists like Cyrille Aimee and Veronica Swift.

Support for this album will help me with the following costs:
- Musicians
- Studio time
- Sound mixing and mastering
- CD design
- CD printing
- Release on digital platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

I am extremely thankful for ANY level of support, but I did want to offer some incentives for donations! Please take a look at the rewards below, and make sure to include your email address when you donate so I can contact you about your reward(s).
