Help Me Reach My Dad: A Fight Against Acute Myeloid Leukemia w/TP-53 mutation at UCDavis.
Hi, I’m Julie, and that handsome fella in the pic with me is my dad. This past mid-July he fell ill and, well, my heart is heavy as I write this, reaching out for support during one of the most challenging times our family has ever faced. My incredible father, Glenn, is bravely battling an aggressive and highly resistant form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) which has a TP-53 mutation.
He is scheduled to undergo a life-saving, but incredibly risky, bone marrow transplant at UCDavis. This procedure is his best, and perhaps only, chance, but the doctors have given us stark odds: only 1 in 4 patients survive. During this transplant, he will be in isolation for 3 to 5 weeks, making visits impossible. He has to stay sterile and completely germ-free as they, over time, extract his blood from his bone marrow and replace it with new healthy donor blood. This process completely depletes a person and is the reason most don’t make it through.
As his only daughter, even at 47, the thought of him going through this alone, or worse, not making it out, is unbearable. He's not just my father; he's my hero, and I desperately need to see him, to hold his hand, to tell him one last time how much I love him and how proud I am of him, just in case this difficult battle takes a turn for the worse.
I live over 900 miles away from UCDavis, and the cost of travel is a significant barrier for me right now. I am humbly asking for help to raise $500 to cover the essential expenses for this critical trip – primarily gas, a potential overnight stay, and basic meals for this urgent journey.
Every dollar brings me closer to being by my dad's side when he needs me most. It would mean the world to me to share these precious moments with him before he embarks on this daunting fight.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your network would be an immense help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering supporting me and my family during this incredibly difficult time. I promise to keep everyone updated on his journey.
With love and immense gratitude,
Julie
