Help Julie Pay for Life-Saving Surgery

My name is Julie Garrison. I’m a Self-Realization Fellowship devotee in Encinitas, California. I’ve volunteered at pretty much every SRF special event one the last five years and regularly volunteered at the Encinitas Ashram Retreat.
I hesitated before posting a GoFundMe request because I’ve never been comfortable asking for help, but I don’t have any other options.
I’m having surgery on June 29 to remove toxic implants. I’ve already had six lumps removed from my breast and have been in constant pain. This surgery is an important and necessary step in preventing cancer from returning ( I was diagnosed with melanoma on my right breast three years ago.)
The surgery would have cost me $17,000 in California, so I’m driving to Phoenix, where I can get it done for $8,300 from a highly regarded surgeon there.
The last year has been tremendously challenging, financially and otherwise. I am a hairdresser but have been out of work since the salon I work at shut down due to Covid. The worst part is that my husband was in a vehicular accident (a woman ran a red light going 50 mph and hit his truck) and suffered herniated discs and a traumatic brain injury. He was self-employed in construction and hasn’t been able to work in ten months. He’s very slowly improving but it will still be quite some time before he can begin working again. So like so many other families (our two sons are 15 and 12) over the past year, our income nosedived and our credit card debt is piling up.
I’m hoping to raise $10,800 to cover the cost of the surgery as well as travel expenses and hotel and food for a week while I recover in Phoenix.
I will be so grateful for every contribution received, no matter the amount. This past year has been a humbling experience. I look forward to recovering and being in position someday soon to return the favor to someone else in need.
