My name is Monica, and I am raising funds to help care for my sister, who is only 35 years old and is living with a devastating degenerative mental illness. She inherited a condition that includes Alzheimer’s and dementia, and more recently, she has begun suffering from seizures as a result of these illnesses.

She was born in Colombia and is the loving mother of a beautiful 11-year-old daughter. Despite her young age, my sister spent years caring for our mother while she battled the same degenerative disease. Today, heartbreakingly, my sister is the one who needs full-time care.

Due to her condition, her daughter is now under the care of her father, as my sister can no longer safely care for her. This reality has been incredibly painful for our family and especially for a mother who loves her child deeply.

I am now my sister’s primary caregiver and advocate, carrying not only the emotional responsibility but also the full financial burden of her medical care. She currently resides in a specialized care home for individuals with advanced cognitive diseases. Although these facilities are typically designed for elderly patients, it is the only place able to provide the constant supervision and medical attention she urgently needs.

The cost of medical treatment, medications, specialized housing, and daily care is overwhelming. I am doing everything in my power to support her, but I cannot do this alone.

Mi nombre es Monica y estoy recaudando fondos para cuidar de mi hermana, quien con solo 35 años vive con una devastadora enfermedad mental degenerativa. Ella heredó una condición que incluye Alzheimer y demencia, y recientemente ha comenzado a sufrir convulsiones como consecuencia de estas enfermedades.

Nació en Colombia y es madre de una hermosa niña de 11 años. A pesar de su juventud, mi hermana dedicó años de su vida a cuidar de nuestra mamá mientras luchaba contra la misma enfermedad degenerativa. Hoy, de manera dolorosa, es mi hermana quien necesita cuidados de tiempo completo.

Debido a su condición, su hija se encuentra actualmente al cuidado de su padre, ya que mi hermana no puede cuidarla de forma segura. Esta realidad ha sido profundamente dolorosa para toda nuestra familia, especialmente para una madre que ama inmensamente a su hija.

Hoy soy yo quien está a cargo de mi hermana, no solo emocionalmente sino también financieramente, asumiendo por completo sus gastos médicos y de cuidado. Actualmente se encuentra internada en un hogar especializado para personas con enfermedades cognitivas avanzadas. Aunque estos centros suelen estar diseñados para adultos mayores, es el único lugar que puede brindarle la atención médica y supervisión constante que necesita.

Los costos de tratamientos médicos, medicamentos, vivienda especializada y cuidados diarios son abrumadores. Estoy haciendo todo lo que está en mis manos, pero no puedo hacerlo sola.
