Help Julia Maynard Rebuild After Two Life-Changing Diagnoses

Hi Everyone,

Julia Maynard has been fighting through the unimaginable over the last few months, and now she and her family need your support as they begin a long journey toward healing and recovery.
Just three months ago, Julia was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis, a debilitating autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation and ulcers in the colon. After exhausting all other treatments, she underwent life-saving surgery to have her colon removed in early May. Her recovery was challenging but hopeful — she was out of the hospital and beginning to regain her strength.
But just as Julia was starting to heal, life took another unexpected turn.

One evening, she began experiencing tingling in her hands and feet. Within 72 hours, she lost the ability to move her arms and legs. After intensive testing, Julia was diagnosed with Atypical Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) — a rare neurological disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves. In Julia’s case, it progressed quickly and severely.

Atypical GBS is rare and more complex than the classic form of the disease. Recovery is slow, unpredictable, and demands months of specialized care, physical therapy (PT), and occupational therapy (OT). Over the past three weeks in a rehabilitation center, Julia has made incredible progress. While she has not yet begun to regain movement, her muscles are starting to contract, and she is gaining strength each day through intensive daily therapy—showing immense courage, determination, and resilience.

Julia will be discharged from rehab on July 11th, and while her spirit is strong, her body still needs significant support. Her home must now become her rehabilitation center — requiring mobility equipment, accessibility modifications, and continued in-home therapy services.

Her devoted husband, Daniel Maynard, has been by her side every step of the way — helping her eat, change, stretch, and fight to regain independence. And at home, her beloved snorkie Jaxzen is anxiously waiting for her return.

This GoFundMe will help Julia and Dan:
• Acquire necessary medical and mobility equipment (wheelchair, hospital bed, etc.)
• Cover costs for in-home PT/OT and nursing support
• Assist with transportation to outpatient therapy
• Modify their home for accessibility (e.g., ramps, handrails, accessible bathroom fixtures)
• Provide general financial support while Dan balances caregiving and financial responsibilities

Julia has always been a vibrant, loving, and selfless person who lights up every room. Both her and Dan have always been present to support and help family and friends in times of need. Now they need our help to get Julia back on her feet — literally. Every donation, share, and message of support helps lift her and Dan through this incredibly difficult time.

Please consider contributing what you can to our family and sharing this with others. Let’s help Julia come home, heal, and reclaim her independence with the love and support of her community behind her. Thank you for taking the time to read this and opening up your heart to a story about a warrior and her family. Thank you!

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Maynard Family
