Help Julia Davis Secure Legal Aid and Her Freedom
Donation protected
Love and Healing Work is a culturally mindful advocacy and consulting agency rooted in healing and human-centered practices. We support people navigating harmful systems with dignity. This fundraiser uplifts Julia Davis, a mother and domestic violence survivor, ensuring she receives bail, the legal support, and healing resources she urgently needs.
Support a Survivor. Defend a Mother. Fund Her Freedom.
Campaign Goal: $50,000
Funds Needed For: Legal fees (Belize + U.S.), lodging, food, safe travel, and wellness support while Julia awaits her extradition hearing in Belize.
Julia Davis is a survivor of domestic violence who crossed borders to protect her life and her daughter’s. Now, she sits in a Belizean jail—without an attorney, without her baby, and without the resources to fight for her freedom.
Julia is a Black woman who had the courage to run. In January 2023, seven months pregnant, she walked away from an abusive relationship and into a domestic violence shelter in California. With tear-stained cheeks and trembling hands, she told her story—and began the long, treacherous journey of seeking safety through family court.
But family court, like so many systems, has not protected her. Seventeen months later, she's still in litigation with no legal representation, while her financially powerful ex-fiancé employs multiple aggressive attorneys.
Julia fled the U.S. with her baby, Makeda, seeking refuge and protection. In April 2025, her ex—accompanied by the FBI—retrieved the baby and left Julia behind. She was detained shortly after and now faces an extradition hearing on May 29th. She is alone, without legal support, and in desperate need of community care.
This fundraiser is a call to action. A plea for justice. A chance to rewrite Julia’s story.
We are raising $50,000 to cover:
Legal fees in Belize to secure bail and fair representation
Legal support for custody and DV-related hearings in California
Safe lodging, food, and travel
Mental health and trauma-informed advocacy for Julia’s recovery
This is about survival. This is about love. This is about a Black mother who should not be punished for choosing safety.
A Message from Julia:
“I cried because I finally got away from a man that was unrelenting and unwilling to let me go for over two years… My ultimate goal is to keep myself and Makeda safe. I need a lawyer because I have had no voice in the courtroom. To end the cycle of DV with me.”
