Hey all, my name is Julia and yesterday we lost our mom.

On October 10, my sister received a phone call stating that our mom had been in Penrose ICU since September 29. The nursing facility and her contact info had all the wrong info for me and my sister. We learned that she had a broken femur, another broken bone, active bleeding from the bone, and some brain bleeding. We placed a DNR/DNI on her because performing CPR on her would cause more damage than good.

On Thursday, October 16, we went to the hospital to fill out hospice/palliative care for her so she could receive extra care while at the facility.

On Friday, October 17 around 6:30 pm, my sister received a phone call from the lady who was doing hospice that our mom had passed away. It happened quickly and we hadn’t even had time to plan for cremation or anything. Our mom, just like our dad and brother, did not have any life insurance. And we just had the financial strain of having our brother cremated in February 2024.
