Our dear friend Jules Brown has been diagnosed with life-threatening Thyrotoxicosis.
Jules has had a very rough year. Just after losing their job and then their best friend Leo in September, they were hit with another massive blow: their Graves’ disease has come out of remission and into active Thyrotoxicosis, also known as a “thyroid storm”. This can be fatal and it's made them very unwell. They will be undergoing urgent Radiotherapy in November to destroy much of their thyroid gland and hopefully bring the Graves' disease into remission.
In addition to active Graves, Jules also lives with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, POTS and trigeminal neuralgia which causes severe daily chronic pain. While they’re extremely stoic and good at managing these conditions, having active Graves' on top of this all is a LOT and they will need to take time off work for radiotherapy and recovery. We want to help them with the added financial stress this has brought. This is where your support comes in!
Anyone who knows Jules knows what a kind, ride-or-die, caring soul they are. They would do anything to help a friend in need. Just last year, Jules sat with Annika (the organiser of this gofundme) for many hours in a crowded emergency room, holding their hand, changing their bloody diapers and advocating for them during one of the most terrifying times of Annika’s life. Jules is passionate about their rescue animals and helping vulnerable people. The world would be a dimmer place without them. Jules deserves all the love, help and support they can get right now. It’s a rough road ahead and your support means they can fully focus on their health and healing, without the added stress and burden of financial worry.
Treatment, radiotherapy and recovery will take an estimated 3 months. During this, Jules will need to take time off work and money raised will go directly towards:
- Supplementing their income while they take time off work for radiotherapy treatment
- Food and groceries, and allowing Jules to get takeaway so they don’t have to cook every night while doing treatment and recovering
- Mortgage repayments and household bills
- Continuing to support their high-support-needs dependent and their rescue animals, who they won't be able to physically be around during recovery (due to literally being radioactive after radiotherapy!)
- Travel expenses
- Additional medical bills - while the main treatment is thankfully covered, there are many additional expenses that come along with being sick that unfortunately are not
If you can, please donate and share this widely with others who know and love Jules. Let’s show them the same love and loyalty they’ve given freely to so many of us!
With love,
Annika, Liv & Mon
